Over the past decade PROTECA has developed a unique collection of more than 70 superior teak genotypes, selected amongst Brazilian plantations and teak forests around the world. All clones are first evaluated in field trials established under various site conditions. The outstanding clones are propagated at commercial scale.
PROTECA is the leading supplier of high-performance clonal teak plants in Latin America.
Combined with a careful selection of planting sites and proper forest management, PROTECA’s clonal teak plants offer:
- Greater uniformity
- Reduced forest management costs (low-density planting & greater operational efficiency)
- Higher productivity
- Shorter rotation

PROTECA’s clonal teak plants have shown outstanding field results in commercial plantations in various regions of Latin America. In Brazil, a 9-year-old clonal forest has outperformed a seedling forest by 50% in total volume and 48% in DBH, both under the same site and management conditions.
Considering that teak trees grow into consistently higher market prices as they increase in diameter, the above results have an immediate impact in the total value of the standing forest. The results also suggest a significant reduction of forest rotation, or a substantial increase in wood volume produced over a traditional rotation.
While seedling plantations in Latin America have their final harvest expected between 20-25 years, field results indicate a final harvest of PROTECA’s clonal plants between 15-18 years.
